Wood pyre cremations suspended for 5 days at Nimtala Ghat due to repair work
Kolkata Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the assault on Kunal Ghosh, who was targeted in an egg-throwing incident on Monday evening. The security breach transpired right outside the Kalighat residence of Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, where Ghosh had gone to attend a crucial party strategy meeting. The Beliaghata MLA was interacting with media personnel and responding to reporters' queries outside the gates when miscreants approached within arm's reach and hurled an egg directly at his face.
Following the physical targeting, a furious Ghosh approached the Kalighat police station late at night to register a formal First Information Report (FIR) demanding immediate punitive action against the perpetrators. In his comprehensive written complaint, the TMC leader explicitly characterized the incident as a coordinated act of "BJP Hooliganism" and named a local youth, identified as Chandan, as the prime accused behind the assault. Ghosh asserted that he narrowly managed to shield his eye from a direct, high-impact blow, warning that the physical intimidation was the foundation of a deeper conspiracy designed to orchestrate a fatal assault on him with deadly weapons.
The ruling party leader sharply criticized the role of the West Bengal police personnel deployed at the scene, openly labeling their lack of immediate response as an "intentional failure" to maintain law and order. Ghosh highlighted the severe irony of such an incident taking place within ten meters of a VVIP residence fortified under heavy Z-category security protocols, questioning how unauthorized miscreants managed to execute a tactical assault in front of active law enforcement officers without being apprehended on the spot. He claimed that while it was eggs today, the continuous instigation by elected BJP representatives could pave the way for lethal bomb attacks tomorrow.
